David Schraven
Publisher and leader of CORRECTIV
David Schraven is the Publisher and leader of the German non-profit investigative newsroom CORRECTIV.
Following stints at taz and Süddeutsche Zeitung, he worked as a freelance journalist for the business and North Rhine-Westphalia desks of the Welt group. Notably, while serving as a guest journalist for Time Magazine, David was in New York on September 11th when the towers fell. He is also the founder of the political blog Ruhrbarone. Between 2010 and 2014, David headed the investigative department at the Funke-Mediengruppe Content Desk (WAZ/NRZ/WR/WP).
David has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Wächterpreis der Tagespresse for his investigation into the PFT toxic waste scandal in the Ruhr region. He was also awarded the Research Prize from the Swiss Wolfgang Fichtner Foundation for his reporting on fraud allegations involving former State Secretary Zülfiye Kaykin. His report on the German military’s mission in Afghanistan, Kriegszeiten (Wartimes), was nominated for the German Youth Literature Award, while his graphic report on right-wing terrorism, Weisse Wölfe, earned the Deutscher Reporterpreis. Additionally, for overseeing the investigation into the downing of flight MH17 over Eastern Ukraine, he was honored with the Grimme Online Award.
