Valeriy Chaly
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, UCMC Board Chair, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US (2015-2019)
Ambassador Valeriy Chaly’s public career has spanned more than two decades. He previously served as Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President (2014–2015), and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (2009–2010). From 2015 to 2019, he served as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, additionally acting as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Antigua and Barbuda and to Trinidad and Tobago, and as Permanent Observer to the Organization of American States.
In the non-governmental sector, Mr. Chaly served two tenures (2006–2009 and 2010–2014) as Deputy Director General of the Razumkov Centre, where he supervised programs in foreign policy, international law, and security. He has been a freelance consultant to the Ukrainian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Relations since 2000 and the Committee on European Integration since 2002. He also chaired the Civil Society Expert Council within the EU-Ukraine Cooperation Committee.
Following his diplomatic mission to the U.S., he returned to the NGO sector as the Chair of the Board of the Ukraine Crisis Media Center (UCMC).
