Dr. Gillian McCormack is Country Director for Internews in Ukraine and Deputy Project Director of the Strengthening Independent Media project, implemented across Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. She previously served as Project Director of the EU-funded Frontline and Investigative Reporting Media project in Ukraine (2025–2027), and before that as Chief of Party for USAID’s seven-year, $95 million Media Programme in Ukraine, delivered by global media development non-profit Internews (2018–2025). With over 20 years of experience, she has managed complex media and democracy programmes and worked on technical assistance programs supporting media and information literacy, creating content and training to boost public resilience to disinformation, and contributing to regional media development, election monitoring, and media law reform. Her work spans a wide range of countries, including Zambia, Kenya, Nigeria, Cambodia, Indonesia, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. She holds a PhD in media transformation and has lived and worked in Ukraine since 2016.
